Here are 5 quick steps to choosing the right size curtains.
Step 1: Determine how long the curtains should be.
The length of curtains mainly affects aesthetics, light blocking and ease of cleaning. Below are suggestions for three different lengths:
Window Sill Hanging: Window sill hanging are best used in kitchens, small dining rooms, reading rooms, attics and other small areas that need to be opened often or kept open all the time.
In this case, you will measure your window length from the top of the curtain rod to the bottom of the window image of curtain length measure. Sill length curtains fall to your windowsill. If your window doesn’t have a sill, they fall right to inner edge of your window’s frame. As an example, for a window that is 63 inches high, you can choose 63 inches of curtains.

Floor Length Hanging: This is the most common style of curtain length. You can simply measure from your curtain rod height down to the floor. This style gives everything a refined, finished look. If you Reduce the length measured by 1 cm, so your curtain will hang right above the floor. This will enhance the curtain waves and create a clean look. This is perfect for the kitchen or living room. So, if the ceiling height in your living room is 122 inches, then you can opt for 120 inches curtains.
Note: Make sure the curtains are long enough. This is the most common curtain mistake. Short curtains can make a room look incomplete cut unattractive.
Step2: Figure out your window width.
By measuring the window width, including the curtain rod. A common mistake people make is to exclude the curtain rod length while selecting their curtain size. Your window width will also determine the width of your curtain rod. We recommend that your curtain rod be ten inches wider than your window's width. This adds five inches to either side of your window and minimizes the amount of fabric covering your window when your curtains are open.
The general rule is that if your window measures 40" wide (window width x 2 = 80"), you need curtains that will give a minimum width of 80" or 2 panels for that window. In this case 2 panels will give about 120" to 150" of width which will look nice and full.
Following the tips in my chart, your best choosing size curtains is 80 inches.
Note: Don't skimp on fabric! If you want a full and beautiful curtain. So, when you customize your curtains, make sure the fabric is large enough to cover the entire window. 60 inches wide curtains just don't look good on a 60 inches window!
If the size is not accurate, it will affect the result. That's why, before buying curtains, it’s crucial to get an accurate measurement of your window’s width.
Step3: Decide how many panels to hang.
When you know what the length and width of your curtains. The next step is to figure out the number of panels you want for your window.
The general rule is that if you want to go for one panel only, then the curtain's width and length would equal the measurement you've got. For a set of curtains, you will need to divide the width by 2. For instance, if the width you need is 150 inches, you can either choose a 150 inches' curtain or a set of curtains, each measuring 75 inches.
Note: In calculating the size of the curtains, you need to allow for a certain margin for later adjustment and installation.
